Is your child mouth breathing, snoring, or struggling to sleep through the night? What if it isn't behavioral? What if it's biological? My name is Dr. Piya Gandhi, and this is my podcast where we're going to explore the connection between overall health, oral health, functional health and jaw development, and how it impacts your child's sleep. Did you know that the size, shape, and positioning of particularly your upper jaw impacts a lot of your upper airway growth, which dictates how you breathe? Nasal versus mouth? Mouth breathing is detrimental to overall health. It oxygenates your body less during sleep. It changes the way your face develops and how your airway grows. From a pediatric standpoint, it is the first sign that your child is having suboptimal sleep, and it falls into a category of what's called sleep disordered breathing. Sleep disordered breathing is an umbrella term from mouth breathing all the way to pediatric sleep apnea. The goal at our practice and of this podcast is to educate parents and practitioners of how to screen early for these disorders so we can avoid children developing full blown sleep apnea. Whether you're a parent provider or both. You're in the right place to take a deep dive into pediatric sleep apnea. Each month we'll bring you conversations with specialists, realtime stories from families, and my expertise on pediatric airway health. You can expect to leave gaining more knowledge of how to screen your own patients and your children and new ways to advocate for your child's and patient's health. So if this is something you want to learn more about, join our community of passionate professionals and curious parents.
